EXCITEMENT IN A HOTEL. [by telegraph—press association.] AUCKLAND, March 19. The Star hotel was the scene of some excitement, on Saturday evening, when an uninvited guest entered the room of a southern visitor, dressed himself in the latter’s clothes, with gold watch and chain. On proceeding to an unoccupied room, he touched a button, presumably for the elecjtric light, but it rang the hell for a waiter and led to an alarm being given. The stranger made his exit by the fire escape, but the licensee, Mr. Nightingale, with a well-directed stone, sent the intruder back through the window. Re-entering the hotel, Mr. Nightingale saw a man coming from the dining-room and detained him until the police arrived. Further investigations led to the discovery of a man under a bed, who was also arrested and on Sunday morning two more men were arrested on a charge of being connected with thefts at the Star hotel, a quantity of stolen goods having been found on a vessel in port. At the Police Court tins morning, Harold Coley, a eheesemaker, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on charges of unlawful conversion of motor-cars. Leonard George Coley, alias Collins, a labourer, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on similar charges. [THREE SEAMEN SENT TO PRISON. AUCKLAND, March 19. Three- -reamen who were arrested in connection with thefts from, the Star Hotel were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
