HAWERA HOSPITAL

MEETING OF THE BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board was held to-day. The medical superintendent (Dr. J. Cairncy) reported that 72 .patients had been admitted during the month oi February, the number remaining in Hospital at January 31 .being 41. Patients discharged or died during the pntli 'numbered 58, leaving 55 in hospi tal at. the ond of the month. The daily average of occupied beds for February was 48.4, as compared with a daily .average of 61.6 for the preceding 11 months, and 47.1 for the corresponding period last year. The daily average to each of the nursing staff was 1.6. Thirty-one hospital cases had [received X-ray treatment. Physic therapeutic treatment givpn during the month numbered 228, the dialy average being nine. Thirteen out-patients • had received attention during the month, the number of treatments being 92. The acting-matron (Sister A. M. G 1 y lies) reported that Nurse G. Thomson and Nurse E- Lash completed their first year on January 30 and February 14 respectively. The matron acknowledged with thanks gifts received as follow: —Periodicals, Mi's Robinson, (Mr J Barclay (Okaiavra), Mr Shaw; magazines, Air O. W. Solomon, the Yiekerage, Alanaia, and Mrs Gifford; hooks, Mr John Sttmr-roc-k; children’s books, Betty Worley and Miss Lysaghb; flowers, Mrs Downey, Messrs Vow.les® and Larsen: fruit, Mr J. Young (Nonnaiiby). The report of the matron of the Old People’s Home (Mrs At. Laing) stated there were 22 inmates, two. of whom were in hospital. Services had been conducted by the Salvation Army. Donations had been received from Messrs Elliott and Sturroek (fruit), Mrs. Travis (papers) and Mr Sharp (books). The farm manager. Mr IT. J. Webber, reported that during the month 435 gallons of milk and 58 pints of cream had been supplied to the hospital and 724 gallons to the. Old People’s Home. Bacon supplied to the hospital was. valued at £ll 8s 4d. Three, pigs purchased at the sale for £5 17. s had been sold after two weeks for £7 7s 3d.
