OHAWE.
BEACH AND R-OAD IMPROVEMENT. (From O'ur Own Correspondent.) The weather during the last few clays has been unsuitable for the Ohawe fishing fieet, the surf being too rough. The majority of the natives who have been the guests of their Ohawe friends returned to their homes during the week. In the course of their visit they were well entertained under the leadership of Mr. Ripene, who .spared no pains to give them a pleasant time. The dray road to the beach, used for carting metal, is at present in a very bad state. One of the wheels of a dray used by one of the contractors collapsed through coming in contact with a large boulder. Some action is necessary to have the road repaired, its present condition being almost unfit to permit the working of the teams of horses. A visit to the road by the county engineer may have the desired effect.
The chairman of the beach improvement committee is arranging a. meeting at an early date for the purpose oi making arrangements in connection with beautifying, etc. The chairman of the Domain Board, Mr. E. Dixon, who has always taken an active interest in matters concerned with the beacli, is also moving to assist to bring about the good results which have always attended his energies. Several other offers of assistance have been received. A continuous service of the telephone and post office at the beach is being applied for. This will prove a great acquisition to all concerned if brought about. At present the postmaster lias the matter under consideration.
Mr. and Sirs Stokes and family, who have been spending a holiday at the beach for some time, returned to Hawera last week.
Owing to the surf on the beach lately, the pool in the river has been freely used by visitors. The pool is in excellent order at present.
