STAR STRANGER WINS CUP
TBY TELEGRAPH PRESS . ASSOCIATION. ] WELLINGTON, March 17. The autumn meeting, -of the Wellington Racing Club was concluded to-day in finn -weather. The, attendance was large and the track was fact. Star Stranger received a wonderful ovation following his Gold Cup victory. The totalisator handled £57,866, an increase of £9433 bn the day. The total for the meeting was £100,650 10s, as compared with £86.579 10s last year, an increase of £14,856. On the second day last year the weather was wet. To-day’s racing was perhaps the best ever seen on the couts. SECOND HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP. Of 260 sovs. One mile. 4 Nucleus, 10.8 (L. Morris) 1 1 Bright Day, 10.11 (A- E. Ellis) 2 5 Cl avers, 9.5 (G. When iin line for home Nucleus made a good run and won easilv by two lengths from Bright Day, with Ct avers hat fa. length away. Dancer was right up fourth. Time, 1.421. / HUTT HANDICAP. Duke Abbey was early prominent in front, but White Fang led him into thp straight, where Crown Area challenged with Vertigern. Crown Area beat- Vertigern by a head. Duke Abbey was two lengths back and Don Jose a similar distance away fourth. Damaris, Cerf and Alyson ware well up. Tiega lost its rider (R. Reed), who was unhurt. Time, 1.13. TRENTHAM GOLD CUP. Satrap led most of thp w’ay, and with a miLe gone was ten lengths in front. Over the last half-mile Rapier and Star Stranger challenged, the' latter winning from Satrap by three-quar-ters of a length. Time, 3.22). MURITAI HANDICAP. Vigilance made the running, but in the ruin home Spearmiss shot out and was challenged by Talisker. Spear miss won by a short neck from Talisker, who heat Court Jester by two lengths. Set Sail was in front a furlong from the judge and was* settled by Tree-ham, who went under in tho last stride, and Laughing Prince coming, from the near. Black Mint was a neck away and Hynanna was right up. with Set Sail next. Time, 2.183. SUBURBAN HANDICAP. Of 500 sovs. Six furlongs.

Reed) 2 10 Broad Acre, 7.5 (Broughton) 3 Also started: 3 Money Order, 8.13; 6 Lysander, 8-8; 2 Shirley, 7.13; 7 Arrow Lad, 7.10; 4 Limited, 7.10; 9 Sudden Storm, 7.3; 8 Silver Coot, Limited, Shirley and Money Order led on to the course, with a hunch all prominent. Bright Glow finished best and won by a length. Cimabue beat Broad Acre* by a. similar margin. Lysander was fourth and Shirley and Arrow Lad next. Time, 1.11. BE LMONT HANDICAP.
