MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PERSONAL. The funeral of Air. Edward Hughes took place in the Alanaia cemetery on Friday. Before proceeding to the cemetery a Requiem Alass was said at the Roman Catholic Church by the Rev. Father O’Dwyer, who also officiated at the graveside. The Mannia Municipal Band placed a selected programme of items in the Octagon on Saturday night, which was listened to with, appreciation by a large audience. A collection was taken up for the contest fund. Donations were also received from Air. W. Anton LI, Afr. W. Snowden 10s, and Air. McCann 10s, lor which the band returns its thanks. CRICKET. The .ol.owing will represent Alanaia team to pla.v Rivals at Hawera on Wednesday: H. Hughes, Whalen, Edwards, Smith, Fitzgerald, Betts, Lord, Cosgrove, Vine, Jones, Duncan. LEAP YEAR DANCE. Great interest is being taken in the leap year dance which is to be held in Alanaia town ball on Wednesday night. The committee has made preparations for a first-class evening’s entertainment. The function is in aid of the Alanaia Alunicipai Brass Band contest fund.
