SIMPLE PRECAUTIONS. Always make sure that the driver ahead of you is aware tha you want to pass him, otherwise he may draw out into the road at an inopportune time. If someone “cuts in” in front of you, keep your temper, and do not try to pass him because your feelings are hurt. Impromptu racing on the road requires capable and level-headed'driv-ing, otherwise it is very dangerous. In wet weather give good warning of your intention to pull up; the man behind you may not be able to stop so readily as you. Use the hooter with discretion —a wavering pedestrian who could be .passed safely without its use may become ‘‘panicky” if you hoot at him repeatedly. Take corners slowly when the roads are wet; even if your car or cycle does- not skid readily, you may meet one round the bend that does. Remember that dropping into _ a lower gear improves both the braking and the acceleration. When in doubt as to who has the ligh of way, slow up; the other man may have more definite views.
