HAWERA TROTTING CLUB

BIG EASTER ATTRACTION. LIBERAL NOMINATIONS. Regarded: as the Dominion’s leading fixture outside the metropolitan cen tres in the light harness sport, the annual meeting of the Hawera Trotting Club, with its stakes of ovei £4OOO, has again attracted liberal nominations which sustain its popular reputation. The gathering is scheduled for Easter Saturday and Monday, April 7 and 9, and when nominations closed last evening the tally showed 541, a total only slightly below that of last year, which marked the record of the club’s meetings to that date. Ten of the> events have brought ovei 35 prospective candidates each,, and the figures for the two biggest prizes, the Cup race and the Waimate Plains Handicap, are 39 and 40 respectively, while competitors in the Stewards will be drawn from 59 nominees, this being the outstanding individual race total in the l club’s history. Owners and trainers in all centres of the North. Island, as well ,as the principal ones across the Straits, are represented, including a good quota from Canterbury, the southern stronghold of the sport. Handicaps, will he announced by Mr. G.
