COMPANY MERGER

WIRELESS AND CABLES.

THE ALL-RED ROUTE. CONTROL QUESTION DECIDED. 8Y CABLE—PB ESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBJGHT LONDON, March 15. . ]n any case it was most unlikely that the Governments will surrender control of the- beam and cables. It is learned authoritatively that the majority of the Wireless Conference, name y, Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, agreed, quite irrespective of Marconi ' and Eastern's negotiations, or other private enterprises, that Imperial Pacific cables shall be maintained at the highest efficiency under, the control of the four above-named Governments. I’he other three Government delegations, India, South Africa and Free state, were non-committal, but not hostile. It is added that the four firstnamed believe that the retention of the All Bed Boute i.s necessary in the mtenests of Government intercourse, inter-imperial trade and finance, and cheap, speedy transmission. Bespecting the oft-expressed fear tliat a fusion may result in increa.sed rates, it is .stated that an increase is unlikely, as none of the Governments represented at the conference would entertain such an idea, their aim being to devise ways and means, of using cables and wireless to the fullest capacity, in view of further reducing rates. The conference will give its strongest Vf forts to devise means whereby all seriates Government and private, will effect economies. The delegates hope the agreement between Marconi and Eastern will provide a basis for solving this problem.
