In compliance with the recent decision of the State Cabinet, following the dispute with the boilermakers, Walsli Island dockyard was closed down yesterday. All employees, with the exception of 50 who were retained for the maintenance of the plant and the slipping of vessels, have been paid off.
[This decision was the outcome of a dispute over the bonus system of wages, and 1 about 900 men are affected. Messages received a few days ago indicated that there were prospects of the works being reopened, and negotiations to this effect were proceeding.]
