STOCK MARKETS.

STILL THE SAME ALL-ROUND DEMAND.

'The keen demand for all classes of Stock, which has been noted of late • weeks as a dominant feature of the markets for stock still marks the position generally, and was a feature of the sale* of the past week in various parts of the district. The improved condition of the pastures, which has been experienced everywhere, and nowhere more than in South Taranaki, is creating a, feeling of quiet confidence that inspires farmers to show more enterprise than would have been possible had the dry spell persisted longer. This is increased, too, by the wonderful prices for wool and the eontinuonsly improving: market at Home for dairy produce. The demand for dairy heifers is making itself felt already, and good business is reported bv holders of good young cattle, to fill up the dairy herds of the Last season there was a great drain on the supply available bv the strong .demand from tKe Waikato and other districts. With the marked improvement in the condition of dairying lands, which it is hoped wi'l continue, probably tanners here will give earlier consideration to their needs. Fat cattle are still somewhat short, and in consequence .prices have hardened. The great improvement iq. pasture lands lias much improved the market for store cattle, which are commanding good prio3S. Buyers show a keen desire to secure good young Shorthorn and Hereford cattle for fattening and these command much attention. Sheep of all kinds are being snapped up eagerly, and ‘the supply of which, showing a falling off, has increased 1 the keenness of the demand. .There is not a .great deal being done with pigs of late, but that breeders of pedigrees have faith in the future is shown by the remarkable disp’ciy of classy animals at recent shows, a.nd also .the quality of the sectipns devoted to pigs suitable for export. There is no doubt fanners of the Dominion are able to grow and fatten the right kind •of -animal to compete with the best provided they breed and feed them rightGenerallv the position is satisfactory, and the improving and holding output •of dairv produce, with a rising market, promises a season that is likely to torn out much better than at an earlier part of the vear have been expected. The improved position genera’Jy is decided! v good for the general welfare of the Dominion. \ i ~
