OPUNAKE RACING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING TO=MORROW HIGH-CLASS HORSES COMPETING THE CARD REVIEWED. The annual race meeting of the oldestablished' Opunake Racing Club takes place to-morrow at the I lhama course, and everything in connection therewith points to a most successful, if not a record, meeting in the history of the club. The acceptances are- good numerically, and the class of horses racing is much better than is usually seen at country meetings. Mr. P. S. Riley, the .popular secretary, has everything arranged for the comfort and * convenience of patrons. A visit to the course on Wednesday showed the racing "track to be in excellent condition; in fact, it has never been in better order, and reflects the greatest credit on Mr. Stevenson for its present state. Convenient train arrangements have been made for the conveyance, of horses and passengers, and the train will leave Hawera. at 8.10 a.m. The club- has- also made eiaborate arrangements for a motor and. bus service from Pihaina station to the course, and patrons will be conveyed from the -railway to the course at a moderate charge.

A GLANCE THROUGH THE CARD

A fairly even field, bub Whiisogne may be reserved for the last race. Of the- remainder, Flying Shot and Sovena. appear nicely weighted. OPUNAKE CUP. Of 400 sovs. One mile- and a- quarter. Yoma 9 0 Opa 7 6 The Swell 8 2 Vivo V 6 Orazone 7 12 Manly l Hipo 7 6 (llengariff 7 U The field contesting the Cup is perhaps the- most classy one tnat has been saddled up for some years. They are, on the handicap, a. fairly even lot, and -a fine race is sure to eventuate. Orazone- has been 'doing great work, but if at their be.st Hipo and Manly will be hard to dispose- of. Yoma has a -good horse’s weight, while Vivo will cany her 7.3 with the best of them. Manly, Orazone and. Vivo are sure- to be- handy at the finish or a fast run race.

The- -last race of the day, as is usually the case, is sure- to be a good betting race, and if all the- acceptors go to the post a boil over may be exl>eeted. Wliis-ogne will probably carry the public confidence,' but Green Acreand Miss Mercia will be- hard to dispose of.
