Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Smith, of Waipukurau, accompanied by Mrs. and Miss Smith, of Hastings, who are on a motor tour of the North Island, are at present in Hawera and staying at the Commercial Hotel. Members of the first and second divisions of the Cburt of Appeal have been appointed. They are: First division, Chief Justice Sir diaries Skerrett, Justices Sim, Reed, Adams and Macgiegor. Second division, Chief Justice Skerrett, Justices Sim, Reed, Ostler and Blair.

The death lias occurred at Trethuffe Hill, as the result of his war experiences, of Mr. Arnold Mellow. The deceased who was a son of the late Mr. R. T. B. Mellow, resided in Kaponga for the greater part of his life, until he left with the 6th Reinforcements for the Great War. He was a most popular young man On coming back from the war and' obtaining bis discharge he decided, after a short stay in New Zealand, to return to England, and he settled in Cornwall. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss.

Brigadier-General Bateman Cihampain, 0.M.G., secretary-general of the Rled Cross in England, and delegate from the Red Cross League, Mrs, Ghampian and tlieir two daughters spent a busy day in New Plymouth yesterday and were to leave this morning for the Waitomo Oaves, afterwards going to Auckland. Last night General Champain and Mrs Champain were given a civic reception by the deputyMayor (Mr. S. G. Smith) and were the guests of the Taranaki council of the society at a reception in the Victoria League rooms. Mr. Frederick Alexander Corby, son of a well-known Wanganui resident and fireman on the steamer Tahiti, was awarded the silver medal of the Royal Shipwreck Relief Society for his pluck in diving overboard and rescuing passengers from the 1 steamer Greycliffe in the ferry disaster (states a Sydney Press Association message). A Press Association message from Dannevirke announces the death of Mr. George J. E. Bickford, aged 62, ex-manager of the Bank of New Zealand at- Dannevirke, a position which ho had held for 30 years. He took a keen interest in public affairs, .and was actively associated with practically every institution and society in the town.

The death has occurred at the early age of 36 years of Mr. Oswald James Dunlop, of Mere-mere, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Dunlop, of Ha were. He was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves a widow, and with her and his relatives' will be felt sincere sympathy in their bereavement. Mr. Dunlop was at one time a keen and enthusiastic supporter of the Egnwnt Sheep Dog Trial Club, hut failing health* for a- long time had prevented his lending active support. He had- spent practically all his life at Mereme-re, and was well known and respected by his fellow farmers of that district.
