HAWERA TRACK NOTES (By “Limited.”) During training operations on the I-lawera raceeourse this morning OraEone and Bisox went together over seven furlongs. They ran the first two furlongs in ’27see, the half-mile in 53 sec, the full distance being covered in 1.34 4-5. Mr Burke was present to see his horse Corncrolf work. Corneroff finished in front of Airtight over five furlongs, covered in 1.74. The two-year-old Silver Rule and Golden Flower, with iSilvermine, were associated in a sprint over half a mile. Silvcrmine showed to advantage; beating the pair home in the good time of Sljsee and displaying some of his two-year-old brilliancy in the doing of it. Mountain Bell was given ia round of the schooling hurdles and fenced efficiently. Mr A. Morse had the barrio•• erected at the seven furlong post- and gave a number of two-year-olds some education in “jumping out.” The following took advantage of the L arpier pvruUee: Cooimint, Tune, Kaha, Egeria. Fer ine, all of them showing improvement on their previous essays. A collision which might easily have been attended with fatal results occurred yesterday afternoon about four o’clock on the Glover Road. A schoolgirl, riding a. bicycle along the road mentioned, suddenly turned off towards the side, with the result that she was knocked over by a motor cyclist who was travelling in the same direction. The motorist, in trying to avoid the child, jammed on his brakes, but was unable to avert- a smash ; Although the girl’s cycle was seriously damaged, she escaped scat-hless, but the motorist, however, was not so fortunate, receiving injuries to his left leg and serious cuts and bruises on the face and hands. The motor cycle was also seriously damaged. Reremoana has been accepted for in the Challenge (Stakes in preference to the Thompson Handicap next Thursday and is in good shape to run the seven furlong weight-for-age event. In company with Bright Glow he leaves for Trentham on Tuesday’s mail train. Mendip will also go down for the hack events and the two-year-old Tane_ will probably mqke the trip for educational purposes. The successful performer round Taranaki tracks, Tip Tree, has been sold to Messr s Dannellan and 'Shanahan, of Greymouth, and the popular Tree Lucerne gelding will in future do his racing on the Coast.
