The retsult of the St. Ives by-election establishes a precedent in the House of Commons, as a man and wife will sit together. As both are Liberals, it it is a less piquant situation than if they belonged to opposing parties. The lit- Hon. Walter Runeiman at- present sits next to Mr Lloyd George in the riont bench, 'the question arises whether Mrs Runeiman wil l , be permitted to sit with her husband or in a humbler p-iuee on a. back bench. Tile victory has set the Liberal bells a ringing and Conservatives do not disguise the fact that the turnover of votes is considerable, although they point lit that St. Ives has a reputation of being a persistent wobbler.
