SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS
MEETING -OF TARANAKI BRANCH. A general meeting of the Taranaki Branch of the New Zeal and Society of Accountants was. held -at Stratford recently. Air IV. G. Wa’ilcley, chairman of the. branch, presided, and members were present from Niew Plymouth, Stratford, Eltham and Hawera. The chairman reported that a branch library had been established at Hawera and that this facility was a great boon :o practitioners. As the annual gjeenral meeting of the society is this year to be field at Auckland," it was decided that an invitation he l extended to the president, secretary and: other members of the council to visit Taranaki and meet members on their way through to Vuckland. In the event of the president being able to accept the invitation .it was decided to tender him and bis councillors a complimentary dinner .it New Plymouth. The representative of the branch on the council. Air. Hugh Baily, presented bis report, which was discussed generally. The matter of solicitors’ trust- audits
was discussed bv those present- It was generally admitted that the trust fund itself should bear the cost of tiro audit, and that solicitors .should not be. called upon to pay such fee. _ It was thought- that if the Law Practitioners Act was -so amended as to permit of deposits of the. trust fund being made in the Post- Office Savings Bank, that the interest thus earned would nay for the cost of the audit. The general opinion was that this would be fair to practising solicitors. Jt was decided to ask the New Zealand Council to take up the matter ' ■’th the- Ndw Zealand Law Society, in the direction of having some amendment of the Law Practitioners _ Act made, so that the trust account itself could bear the cost of the audit. Air E. K. Cameron, Hawera, addressed those present on the Intermediate Credit Act. 1927, Part 2. After 'the address very interesting discussion took place, and a vote -of thanks was accorded to Air Cameron. At the next meeting of the branch, Mr C. H. Courtney will address members oil “Office Appliances.”
