NEW PLYMOUTH SHOW

SECOND' (PEOPLE’S) DAY. BALANCE OF AWARDS. The success of the first (lay .of the New Plymouth show was more than continued yesterday (People’s Day), when large crowds thronged the pretty grounds all (lay, enjoying tho lino display of stock and watching the attractive jumping competitions and the steer riding contests. The excitement ancl thrills Of the latter were a marked contrast with the graceful work shown in the former. Combined, they made an afternoon which was packed full with interest and amusement. The ovents as they followed one another with much expedition, were watched with keen enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed by all- , A ~ , 'The grand parade was a great sight, and demonstrated the fine array of stock of all descriptions. The parade was well marshalled by Messrs Nolan and Griffiths. The buckjumping was controlled by Mr J. Thompson, who had assembled a good collection of “outlaws” which tested the riders’ skill to the last degree. The- Hawera and district riders proved very strong, and bore off ad the buckjumping prizes and the best ol the others. Messrs E. and A. Harrison, L. Goodger junr. (Hawera), ancl M. Burke (Kapuni) scooped the pool m these thrilling contests. G. Jvernsk junr (Ohangai), O. Atkins and F. Atkins’ (Normanby) took the best in the hunting events. _ A pony front Ohangai, G. Kern.sk s Blue Boy, scored fit’st for trotting competition and pony jumping, while. S. Symes’s Osprey, a. great old champion, scored in the lady’s hunter and open jumping contests. F. W. Atkins’ JPrince Paul was first for steeplechase and second for the open. The officials throughout had a busy time, Mr. Sampson ancl the secretary (Mr. W P. Okey), committees and \ stewards being indefatigable in their exertions to- do everything possible for success. The society owes a- great deal to the ladies’ committee, which, with many willing helpers, made such a success of the tea. ancl luncheon rooms. Additional awards were as follow : CHAMPIONSHIPS. •
