SECRET PLANS.
TO FLY ATLANTIC OCEAN,
ENGLISHWOMAN PREPARATIONS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYKIGHI LONDON, March 8. A woman’s sensational secret attempt to fly across the Atlantic Ocean from east to west has been disclosed by the “Daily Express.” The Hon. Elsie Mackav, third daughter of Lord Jnchcape, is due to start at noon today (half-past 11 p.m. New Zealanu time) from Cranwell aerodrome, with Captain Hinelicliffe in a machine named “Adventure,” which was brought specially from America. It has a cruising speed of 90 miles an hour. The course will be laid straight to Baldonnell, on the wes‘coast of Ireland, and thence to Ncvi foundland. Secret preparations have been pic greasing for mqn'ths. Extra petrol tanks have been installed in the wings of the machine and more petrol will be carried in aluminium tins, ’saving two and a half pounds weight per fourgallon tin. The Hon. Elsie, who is short, dark and pretty, ’ - ’ ’ a life full of adventure and is an accomplished horsewoman. She was among the first women to obtain a pilot’s certificate. She had recently been engaged designing deeorntions for her father’s liners.
