Even the Prussians have taken up the campaign against Germany’s Defence Budget. They point out that the expenditure on an army of 100,000 men exceeds the whole of Prussia’s 1912 outlay on half a million men. The German Defence Minister retorts that critics are not. allowing for depreciation of currency or the many separate' pre-war departments which were disbanded under the Versailles Tneaty. A bitter ,struggle is developing to restore the vote foir the £4,000,000 cruiser which the Reichstag, at the instigation of the Prussians, has deleted. It is believed the Ministry have sufficient numbers to restore the vote in V e Reichstag on the grounds of Germany’s growing merchant service not being protected.
