AGITATED EGYPTIANS.
DISPUTE OVER HEADGEAR. VISITING ROYALTY \S .PRO. NOUNOE-MENT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received 11 .TO a.m. to-day. LONDON, Jan. 6. The “(Daily Telegraph’s” Alexandria correspondent says that fuel has been added to the fire on the burning question of headgear which is agitating Egypt,' by the pronouncement of King Anianulla of Afghanistan before his do. parture for Italy. Anianulla soundly condemned the tarbnsh, but for different reasons from those of the Egyptian doctors, who declare that it is unhygenic and unsuitable for a hot climate. The king’s argument is that the fez bears no relation to religion and i s in no way -a sympol of Islam. He also condemned flowing robes, for the surprising reason that they arose the contempt of foreigners for natives of Eastern countries.
His .remarks are warmly approved by the students belonging to the -Sheik’s training centre, who went on strike a year ago because the authorities refused them permission to wear hats and lounge suits instead of tarbans and robes.
