TRAGEDY AT TE KIRI.
WOMAN FOUND DEAD. RAZOR WOUND IN THROAT. A startling discovery was made on a farm at To Iviri this morning, when a farmer found his step-mother dead with a wound in her throat and a razor beside the body. The deceased was Mrs Charlotte Lilian Fergusson, a widow, aged about 56 years, who had been living with her stepson, Mr Charles Joseph Fergusson, at To Kiri. The late Mrs Fergusson had been in poor health for a long time, and for several months had been receiving medical treatment for nerve trouble.
Thi s morning an employee on . the farm, M. C. Jeffries, took a cup of tea to Mrs Fergusson at 6 o ’clock and then left for the milking shed with Mr Charles The latter returned to the house at 9.30 a.m. and in the men’s room he found the body of his stepmother lying in front of a mirror with a razor in the hand. Constable Clouston wag notified and medical assistance was obtained, but it. was ascertained that life had been extinct some two hours.
An inquest will be held at Opunake to-morrow.
