WELLINGTON RETAINS WILDING SHIELD. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION J WELLINGTON, Jan. 3. Wellington to-day retained the Wilding Tennis Shield by defeating the Auckland team on the association’s grounds at Miramar, winning all their matches besides having two matches in hand from the previous day’s play. Rain overnight did not interfere much with the courts, but the wind had turned from north to south. Wellington won by -eight matches to two. Following are the detailed results (Wellington players mentioned first): — Singles. —A. L. France beat E. L. Bartleet 6—l, 6—o; C. E. Malfroy beat A. W. Sims 7—9, 11—9, 6—4; D. iG -. France beat N. G. Sturt 6 —l, 6 —o; N. It. C. Wilson beat L. G. Knott 7—9, 7 —5, 6 —4. Doubles —A. L. France and Wilson beat Knott and Sturt 6 —3, 4 —6, 6 —4; D. G. France and Malfroy beat Bartleet and Sims 6—o, 7 —5.
