EMPIRE MIGRATION.
BIG WESTRALIAN SCHEME. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Jan. 3. It is understood in London that the Overseas Settlement Committee is considering co-operating in the construction of a railway from Southern Cross to Lake Grace for the purpose of settlement of the wheat areas in Western Australia. The committee, however, is not committed to the undertaking pending the receipt of reports from Western Australia.
The committee regrets that Australia has not sufficiently availed herself of the £34,000,000 migration development scheme. Of the Australian States, Western Australia has proved most responsive, then Victoria, and thirdly South Australia.
