HAWERA WATER PRESSURE.
RESTRICTION OF WASTE. DISCUSSED BY BOROUGH COUNCIL. At last evening’s meeting of the Hawera Borough Council -the lack of water pressure in Hawera was referred to. several councillors urging that action should be taken against persons found to be wasting water. It was- decided to restrict the hours of the use of garden hoses in order to conserve the pressure. Cr J.*M. Townsend, who introduced ■the subject, said that yesterday morning the pressure had been -so low that it -had been impossible to use a church organ. The Alhyor (Air E. A. Pacey) said that frequently of late -the pressure had been too low for this purpose. Cr E. Alorrissey said he was satisfied that a considerable quantity of .water was being wasted by the use of garden lioses for watering and through -leaky taps. Cr Townsend agreed with this view and suggested that offenders should be prosecuted as a warning. He said he believed this would have the desired effect. The Arayor said he thought that an appeal should be made to the people of the town to conserve the supply as much as possible. Cr Alorrissey moved that the hours for the use of hoses be limited to one hour in the evenings. Cr AY. G. Strange seconded. The Alayor suggested that the supply to the schools should be cut off during the holidays. Cr Alorrissey said that it might be advisable to restrict the supply -to the lake at Naumai Park. The motion was -carried.
