The Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Quo nsland commenced to-day, the former losing two wickets for 400 (Woodful SI, Ponsford, not out, 234, Hendry 129), when stumps were drawn. The weather was line and hot. Queensland won the toss and unaccountably sent Victoria in on a perfect wicket. .Scoring up to luncheon was slow against bowling which was not dangerous, but after the adjournment the cricket livened and Ponsford, in partnership with Hendry carried the score along at a fast rate, Ponsford batting at the top of his form, and hitting solidly at everything sent down. Ponsford has now made a century at each of the last seven Sheffield matches in which he has played. IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA ADELAIDE, Dec. 16. 'The Sheffield Shield match, New South Wales v. Tne weather was fine and the wicket fast and good. Phillips and Andrews played a sparkling innings, the latter’s footwork being magnificent, while Phillips made many fine shots. Kippax gave glimpses of perfect timing and artistic batting, but was. affected by- the sun, and had to retire for treatment. Scanes and Bradman played soundly and confidently. MARYLEBONE v.
