CROQUET.
OKAIAWA CLUB’S OPENING. The Okaiawa Croquet Club field its season opening this afternoon, when there were present at the club’-s attractive green a la-rgc attendance of members, in addition to a, large contingent of ladies representing Hawera, Alauaia, and other -surrounding clubs. The patron (Air. J. E. Aleuli) extended a welcome to the visitors. Heexpressed tlie opinion that the prospects for play this year were very bright-. He referred to the forthcoming visit to the Dominion of the English touring team, and hoped that some of the Okaiawa- players would oe selected in the teams to be met by the English visitors. Air. Aleuli apologised for the absence of All®. Aleuli. and in her absence called upon the president (Airs. E. G. Betts) to play the first shot.
After the opening an interesting set of games and competitions were played. Competitions for French croquet and progressive croquet were- held.
