BILL ON ORDER PAPER. BIG DEBATE PREDICTED. ALSO ALL NIGHT SITTING. (BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL TO ‘ THE STAR.”) WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. Opponents to the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill will bo hard put to it to-day to prevent the Religious Exercises from being reached, since it will be first on the order paper, according to a statement made by the Prime Aiinister just before the -House rose. On the motion to adjourn, the Leader 'of the Opposition asked what the Government’s plan was for Wednesday. Air 'Coates’s laconic answer was: “Number six.”
“The Religious Bill,” gasped a member in mock surprise. “A non-contentious measure,” drily observed Air Sykes, as Air Speaker left the chair.
It is possible that t-lie -supplementary order papers containing the Minister’s answers to questions will be talked on the whole afternoon, but the Bill must be called on at 7.30, unless any Government messages arc introduced. In the later case, the debate on the neiv measure could be carried on till 12.30, when fresh business could not be called on and the Religious Exercises in Schools would be blocked. Tlie probabilities are, however, that this most contentious measure will be reached and an all night sitting is predicted. The Bill is set down for the second reading.
