At the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Reed sentenced Arthur Herbert Cam, aged 42, on a charge of committing rape and assault oil a young woman, aged 19. to live years’ hard labour. His Honour said: “The police report and the evidence .satisfies m-e that you are one of the most dangerous types of sexual maniacs. It is e<oar that you used your shop for procuring and, ll possible, defiling young girls. How many you succeeded in defiling I do not know, but 1 would not be doing my duty to the community if I did not confine you to prison for a lengthy period.” A SUBSTANTIAL SENTENCE. WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. When James Perry was sentenced to five years in September for breaking and entering, he had declined in the lower court to plead guilty to attempted arson at Kilbirnie, but afterwards said that he had no recollection of having attempted to set fire to- one of the houses he had entered. Justice Alacgregor were: Sidney Adams and Edward Johnson, -found guilty of breaking and entering with intent to steal, received two years' imprisonment. Thomas Duke, for robbery with violence in a Chinese shop, three years' imprisonment with hard labour. Edward William Slattery Corless, for receiving stolen goods, three years’ hard labour. TEN YEARS’ HARD LABOUR. WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. Gustav Victor Hill, found guilty last week of four charges of indecent assault on hoys, and two other charges of an indecent nature, was to-day sentenced by Air. Justice Alacgregor. He got five years’ hard labour on the first charges and 10 years’ hard labour on the second, sentences to be concurrent.
