LONG DISTANCE FLIGHTS
S.VNDSTOIiM DELAYS I.ANGASTE'It/ BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 1 p.m: to-day. BAGHDAD, Nov. 1. Lancaster -and. Aiiller left Ziza, but a high wind, causing a sandstorm, compelled them to- alight at- Putb-a the desert post of the- Royal Air Force, which is provided with a big Yirkers-Verno-n bombing ’plane. It is hoped, if the weather clears, that the 250 miles of trans-desert flight to Baghdad will not present -any difficulties on. Wednesday. ANOTHER ATTEMPT FOR LONG DISTANCE RECORD. "LONDON; Nov. 1. Hinkler -and Mclntosh will start on Tuesday or Wednesday, when there is full moon for the two- nights they will lie- in the- air. They will follow Carr’s route across Europe to Constantinople, Baghdad, Karaehe and continue until their 740 gallons of petrol is exhausted. It should last 40 or 50 ho-urs, and be sufficient for 4000 to 5400 miles. Thus they will be -able- to beat Chamberlain’s and Levine’s 3905 miles record. It will be interesting if a privately financed scheme is successful in winning the most important international n-iv record for Britain. Hinkler is now at Bristol, making the final tests with the Jupiter.
