SECOND MOUNTED RIFLES.

REGIMENTAL STANDARD FUND.

Some months ago a .public appeal on behalf of the Second. (Queen Alexandra’s Wellington and West Coast) Mounted Rifles for funds; to enable the purchase of a regimental standard was made by Captains B. W. H. Smart and O. L. Ferens, and to date £7O liaa been collected. As it is expected that the cost will be fully £IOO, there still remains £3O to be collected, and further donations are solicited.

Headquarters of the reginmnt are at Hawera, and it is anticipated that when the standard is received it will, following the usual procedure;, be placed in a cbiirbh. The regiment has assimilated the various units of the days .of the Maori War, and these include the Alexandra Cavalry (Wanganui), Wairoa (Waverley), Hawera, .'Op.umake and Stratford Mounted Rifles. The Wairoa Mounted Rifles purchased a standard' 46 yeans ago, which is now being held for sentatiion to the Second Mounted Rifles Regiment when the new standard of the latter is received. It is understood that the Wairoa .standard 1 will be lodged with the other.
