SIXTH DAY OF DEBATE.
UPROAR IN ASSEMBLY. LABOUR MAN’S CHALLENGE. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT. Received 1.50 p.m. to-dar. CAPETOWN, June 1. The sixth day of the flag debate in the Assembly was marked by considerable uproar, owing to a strong speech by a Labour member, professing to speak for the English-speaking South Africans. He declared that the Opposition members were ready to talk, but not to fight for the Union Jack. When accused by an Opposition member with being an Irish Sinn Feiner, one declared: ‘*l will oppose the Bill.’’
The rest of the Labour members pledged themselves to vote for the second reading.—A.P.A.„and “Sun.”
