- Mr Justice Frazer had an adventure on the steamer Wahine on the voyage from Wellington to Christchurch on Tuesday. A steward attempting to restrain a passenger whom he suspected of designs to plunge overboard: was being sadly worsted in the fight and was in sore distress. Mr Justice Frazer, who was lying wakeful in his cabin, heard sounds of the distant struggle, and when he heard the cry “Murder! Murder!” he jumped from his bed and rushed to the scene, arriving just in time to save the steward from serious injury. The judge pulled the steward’s assailant away, but the man still fought furiously. Fair words and persuasion failed to pacify him, and eventually the judge agreed with the steward that sterner measures were necessary. These were effective, and the man was thrown and held till help arrived. — Press Assn,
