DRAWING A BIG ART UNION.

FAIR CHANCE FOR ALL. POLICE SUPERVISION. In view of the early drawing of tnc El Dorado Art Union (the next £4OOO art union to be drawn), it mill be of interest to readers to learn of the method which will be employed. The process is exceedingly simple, and ensures a thoroughly fair chance for allin the El Dorado Art Union all tickets issued contain five-figure numbers. The lowest number in each letter is 20,000, and the highest 99,999. Numbered marbles are used for the drawing, and there is a separate colour for each one of the five figures on the ticket, the bags being the same colour as the marbles. This means that the marbles cannot be mixed. Each marble is replaced in its own bag after each draw, thus affording an opportunity of _ the same number winning further prizes. Before the marbles are replaced in their own bags and barrel they are inspected by the police. Firstly, a member of the audience draws from a bag a marble denoting an alphabetical-letter, say, letter C„ Then members of the audience or officials each draw in rotation a marble from each one of the five coloured bags. Of these five bags the one on the left contains only the numbers 2 to 9. Suppose “2” is drawn, then 2 will be the first figure of the fivefigure number to be a prize. Prom the next bag, which contains marbles from 0 to 9, a marble is drawn, say, a ‘‘s.” from the third bag, say, a “7”; from the fourth bag, perhaps a "3”; and from the fifth bag, say, an “8.” Thus we have C 25735. When the alphabetical letter and the five figures have been drawn t-lie number of the prize is taken from a revolving barrel containing marbles number froini 1 to 14(5. representing the number of prizes in the El Dorado Art Union. This barrel is also under, police supervision. Say, for instance, marble No. 18. is drawn, then this will be the 18th prize. In tliC‘ El Dorado Art Union there arc also prizes to the sellers of the first three winning tickets, as follows: — £SOO to the seller of the first; £IOO to the seller of the second; and £25 to the seller of the third.

By means of the El Dorado bookkeeping and audit system, and apart from the double butt, there is a double check on every ticket bought and paid for. The agents must account to the head office before the drawing for every ticket sold and unsold. If the number of an unsold ticket is drawn the prize is drawn for again. Someone must get it, of course. Somebody is going to win £2OOO^ and the other prizes on the drawing date, 17th February. You might be one! Get your tickets to-day—get a book of nine and secure 1314 chances. Look for the yellow ticket and the Captain El Dorado mascot. The objects of the El Dorado Art Union are for the benefit of Taranaki, Stratford and Egmont A. and P. Associations, to liquidate liabilities and effect improvements to grounds. This is Taranaki’s own art union. Support it.*
