CHAMPIONSHIP OF AUSTRALIA. WON BY TAKAISHI. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 11.5 a.m. to-day. MELBOURNE, Jan. 27. The 880 yards national swimming championship of Australia resulted:— Takaishi (Japan) 1, Jones (West Australia) 2, Grier (Queensland) 3. Won by thirty yards. Time, llmin 6 2-ss.ee, a Victorian record. Takaishi took the lead at the first turn and easily maintained it throughout.
220 yards national breaststroke championship: Steelman (Victoria) 1, Stevens (West Australia) 2, Hopkins, (Victoria) 3. Time, 3min 83sec.
