SPAHLINGER SERUM

ATTACKED BY NEWSPAPER.

ITS EFFICIENCY QUESTIONED CORRESPONDENT’S ALLEGATIONS HY CABLE- TRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Jan. 25. Remarkable direct accusations are contained in a long despatch from Geneva from the Daily Express correspondent, who was sent specially to inquire into the Spahlinger Institute. _ As a result of his interview with Spahlinger, patients past and present, medical men and others, all of whom were checked and cross referenced, he considers that no more patients should go to Spahlinger from England, and no further funds, private or public, should be sent from England to the Spahlinger Institute. He declares that already sufficient has been sent to enable Spahlinger to provide a serum, yet Spahlinger complains he is hampered by lack of funds. The methods of the institute are condemned by worldfamous scientists, he says, and it is certain that some published evidence of cures is inaccurate. The correspondent states: “I saw patients who had given their all to the institute, and they begged and prayed me to prevent others coining from England. Some of these were worse after a course of Spahlinger serum or vaccine, or- both, and some were dying. I found definite evidence of patients who had been treated and died, yet of whom it was denied they had visited Spahlinger. Others were resolute in their confidence. They said: 'We are cured or better.’ I was repeatedly told that Spahlinger was not a business man, and it is impossible to ascertain the amount of money he has obtained. I was asked: ‘What the devil has it got to do with the Daily Express so long as there is a cure?’ I hold documentary evidence showing that in _ 1924, while tuberculosis work was going forward, Spahlinger was proposing to start a factory in France for the manufacture of beauty specifies. Spahlinger aetuallv inspected the suggested premises at Dijon; yet he is not supposed to be a business man.”
