The Federal quarantine authorities have decided that the importation of New Zealand potatoes to Australia will be prohibited from February 15, owing to the presence of corky scab in the imported potatoes. LONDON, Jan. 26. Mr Daniel Breen took the oath and a seat in the Daily Eirann. He is the first Republican to do so. He declares his intention of working for the removal of the barriers -separating the Irish people, including the oath of allegiance to the King. LONDON, Jan. 25. The wife of an Edinburgh enginedriver named Edwards left four children, the eldest four years old, alone in the house, went shopping and returned to find the hou-se ablaze and the neighbours frmtlesslv endeavouring to save thei babies. Edwards’ body was found aoross the babies, whom he had apparentlv tried to rescue. LONDON, Jan. 25.
After thirty-one operations and being twice certified as dead, Mrs Shriv-e, aged 55 years, was buried at Rushden. Thirty vears ago, as she was being carried to the Bristol mortuary, the bearers stumbled and the woman was found alive. Two years later ,slie was laid out as dead, but regained consciousness. She l has since -suffered from lupus and cancer, but had ain exceptionally sound heart. Her case is regarded bv medical men as a marvellous one of resistance- against a malignant disease. At her relatives’ request, two of the woman’s arteries were severed before the interment.
