The miners, at the Cambrian Company’s pits at Tonypandy, after a day's strike, decided to strike every Monday until their alleged -grievances have been redressed. Bradford trade circles are puzzled to discover the motive underlying considerable Dutch purchases of woollens and delivery in Holland, whence they are shipped to Australia aboard Dutch steamers.
“Job’s rival,” sadly commented Mr Justice Avery when a witness described a carter’s business, purchased atBermondsey, as follows: “Year’.9 rent in arrears; hill of sale, on premises; one alleged customer (bankrupt); horses decrepit, -so he sold them for cat’s meat; carts fell to pieces, so he sold them for firewood; then premises fell down.” Following on the Imperial Conference, the Colonial Office is sending to the New Hebrides a commission, including Sir Eyre Hutson (Britain), Air Griffiths (Australia), and General Richardson (New Zealand) to report on the position of the British settlers in comparison with the French, especially as to labour, the- marketing of crops and finanical assistance. The commission assembles in April. It. is understood that the chief investigation will be the removal of tho ban on indentured labour.
