DRIVEN BY OIL

DRIVEN BY OIL. REQUIRES NO WATER. A GERMAN INTENTION. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received 10 a.m. to-day. BERLIN, Jan. 23. A revolutionary design in railway engines, and one which is regarded as of international importance, has been completed at Dusseldorf, in co-opera-tion .with Krupps. It is a Diesel oil driven 1200 horse-power locomotive, requiring no water, and is intended for use in Russia and other countries where vast tracts do not facilitate a water supply. Representatives of the British, Russian, Japanese, Norwegian and Canadian railway authorities were present at the official tests, when the locomotive pulled a load of 1350 tons up a steep grade with ease. It requires onefifth less fuel than the ordinary type of engine of equal power.
