UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.
NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT’S REPRESENTATIVES. BY r TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL TO THE STAR. 7 —; WELLINGTON, Jan. 22. Under the terms of last session’s act, which provided lor a new constitution for the - University, there will soon he completed the election of members by the Court of Convocation, polling having closed to-day. It may be several days before the result is ia via liable, as the election took place under the preferential voting .system. The Government’s representatives on the council were announced to-night by the Hon. R, A. Wright, Minister of Education, as the following: Mr. Thomas Read Fleming, M.A., LL.B., the Hon. J. A. Hanan, Mr. Thomas Hugh Macky, Mr. W. B, Montgomery, G.B.E. Mr. Fleming is a well-known educationist, formerly senior-inspector in the Wellington education district, and prior to his retirement on superannuation, senior-inspector in Otago. Mr. Macky is a prominent Auckland business man, one of the principals in Macky, Logan, Caldwell, and Co. Mr, Montgomery was head of the Customs Department before his retirement on superannuation. The Hon. Hanan, now a member of the Legislative Council, was Minister of Education in the National Government.
