TOLL OF MOTOR.
AUCKLAND'S BAD .11 ECO It D. Motor-vehicle accidents in Auckland during 1926 accounted for an average of one death every nine days (says the Mew Zealand Herald). The total oi -10 deaths for the 12 months shou.t give the greatest concern to both motorists and pedestrians, since it ifc an increase of over 80 per cent. On the aggregate of 22 motor deaths in cit\ and suburbs for the previous year. Although motor-vehicle registration has increased considerably, the fatality rate for the past year lacks explanation. Wellington, Christchurch •am; Dunedin together have not recorded 4': deaths for the year just past, and it is feared that when southern statistics are available they will disclose that half the motor fatal ites. in the Dominion have occurred in the Auckland urban area.
