A,n outstanding feature of the play in the champion singles was the success of the young players, who, in the majority of instances, prevailed. But one remarkable performance was that of A. G. Wallace, of Waverley, whose experience and wonderful lasting power enabled him to beat a much younger anc. a good player. With his old and tried partner, C. J. Dickie, he put up a, great struggle against a pair of much younger players from Auckland. The Waverley men lost after a five set match. It was a long and protracted struggle and the telegrams states that- they took the courts early in the morning, played throughout the day, and were going well into the afternoon. Dickie, out of practice, did not give his usual support- to his partner, but he joined well with him in short- range volleying. Altogether they played 63 games. Wallace plays Dr. North, of New South Wales to-day, and should give him a good run. AUSTRALIANS TO VISIT HAWERA. EXHIBITION NEXT MONDAY.
