THE GAME DESCRIBED.

Received -2.50 -p.m. to-day. LONDON, Sept. 15. In the match against Leigh, the New Zealand League team in all scored five tries and four goals to the Englishmen’s four tries and two goals. 'There was an excellent, attendance of 12,000, but a strong, wind was blowing which greatly interfered -with play. _ The visitors had this behind them in the first half, and with its help gained the lead by 17 to nil. .Making most of the advantage thus derived, New Zealand pressed their opponents strongly and severely taxed their defence. Dufty opened the scoring with a magnificent goal dropped from beyond half-way. Gardiner followed up by crowning two excellent pieces of concerted play with scores in the corner, from both of which Dufty kicked goals a-t a very di file lilt angle. With only one minute to go, Carroll crossed the line under the posts, and again Dufty finished off with a goal. On resuming, Brown -put in a wonderful run of 70 yards, then passed to Davidson, who topped the effort . off with an easy try. After this Leigh, which now had the -wind to assist them, put in their effort. ■ They attacked vigorously and pressed the visitors strongly for two-thirds of the remainder of the game. Blackburn, Clarkson, Osborne and Myers in turn got over, the last scoring after a prolonged struggle on the . goal-line and determined defence by New Zealanders. From these scores Clarkson and Moss kicked the only goals Leigh obtained. The visitors, however, were not done with, for just as time was about -to-be called, Herring put in a powerful run and added another try to New Zealand’s total. No goal was kicked, and the result left the visitors with victory by a comfortable lead.
