The Dailv Telegraphs lobbyist states “The view i.s strongly held in Ministerial circles that the Government must take some definite action promptly. The country cannot afford to soon cl any more time on prolonged negotiations.” Mr. A J. Cook (secretary to the Miners’ Federation) to-night renewed his appeal to tile Government for the negotiation of an honourable national agreement, declaring that the owners have thrown down a new challenge. He appealed to the trade unions, even at this late stage, to put an embargo on the handling of coal, and to impose a lew to assist the miners. The Westminster Bank Review estimates that the coal dispute lias, cost the countrv £-200,000,000 to August 31.
