GOVERNMENT’S BILL PASSED,
WIDE POWERS TO RANK

The Chamber, by 365 votes to 181, adopted the Government’s Bill as a whole, authorising operations, for the stabilisation of the franc and granting the Banque de France the requisite powers contained therein, including the right to purchase French coinage at a premium, buy gold and foreign currencies on the market, and issue notes to the amount of such purchases. IMPROVEMENT IN NEW YORK. Received 10 a.m. to-day/ NEW YORK, Aug. C. - For the first time in several months, French francs sold to-day above three cents. The first trading was at 3.03 and 3.05 almost twenty points above yesterday’s quotations.—Reuter.
