IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.

CAN.ADA’S REPRESENTATION

LEADERS IN AGREEMENT

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. OTTAWA, Aug. 4. Recurrent- reports that Canada would not be represented at the Imperial Conference elicited the information from authoritative sources here that there is no real foundation for their belief.

It is pointed out that, the elections will he over early in September, giving ample time, for the Government in power to choose representatives. It is definitely known that if the Conservatives win Mr Meighan will go to the conference, probably accompanied by one or two Ministers. The fact that various Dominion State Departments have been in communication working towards the adjournment of the conference until October 19 is taken' as an indication that Mr Mackenzie King and Mr Meighan have come to an understanding that, whichever side wins the election's, Canada will he represented at the conference. Mr Drayton. acting-Prime Minister, stated that there is nothing to add to the previous statements since the leaders 1 of both parties wish- the conference to. he held.

It is pointed out that the constitutional question which is l being raised bv the Liberals in the present campaign is regarded as purely for local consumption, and there is> no- likelihood of its being brought up at the conference.
