The many, freinds l of Mr. J. E. Meuli, of Okaiaywsiwho has been seriously ill for the last two months, will be glad to hear that he is now improving,, although still confined to his bed. Mr IV. Brooks, of the Farmers’ Coop. seed and produce department, lbft for a short visit to Auckland this morning. Mr A. G. Welkfced, the Railway Department commercial agent, is at present in Hawera, staying at the Central Hotel. Messrs W. S. Darcey and R, D. Stew.trt, of Wanganui, are visitors to Hawera, and are staying at the Egmont Hotel. Captain Trask, of the Headquarters, defence staff at Palmerston North, who was in Hawera. during the recent mounted camp, is again a to the town. . Mr K. W. A. Tyrie, who succeeds Mr Biss on the Hawera staff of W. D. and H. 0. Wills, arrived in town yesterday morning. Mrs Tyrie accompanies her husband. They are guests at the Central Hotel. ; Lieut. A. H. L. Sugden, N.Z.S.C., has taken over the duties previously discharged by Lieut. G. M. McCaskill in the Hawera Defence Office, as adjutant of the 2nd Mounted Rifles, and officer in charge of Area No; SB. Lieut. Su;gden comes from Wellington, where he was attached to the No. 5 Regimental District. Lieut. Sugden graduated from Duntnoon Military College m New .South Wales; in 1921. He is interested in cricket and Rugby. Mrs G. M. McCaskill, wife of Lieut. McCaskill, accompanied by her son, left Hawera this morning ,by the mail train en route to the South Island for the purpose of saying good-byfo to freinds and prior to accompanying her husband to India. Mr T. Gormley arrived in Hawera from WelMngton* yesterday, P.nd will remain here tor a day or two. 'Sister D. M. Sage, of Hawera, who at the recent midwifery examination passed with honours, is at present relieving sister at St. Helen’s'Hospital, Wellington.
