FARMERS’ UNION CONFERENCE
WOOI, ORGANISATION BOARD

(by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. When discussing proposals for a wool board at the Dominion conference of the l N.Z. Farmers’ Union, Mr Marshall (Marton) pointed out that the Sheep Owners’ Federation was opposed to compulsory control. There would be no chance of the appointment of a hoard which could exercise compulsion. Mr Danell agreed to alter the name to Woo.!. Organisation Board, and the amended motion was carried by 35 votes to 12. Remits were dealt with as under:— “That the whole question of any branch of the farming community receiving a Government guarantee against absolute loss should be fully gone into.” . .
“That this, conference is of opinion that greater general results would be achieved if assistance were given towards means of distribution and the 00-operative marketing of .produce.’ (Nelson). —Carried. “That ther e should be no interference by the Government with prices, or with trade and commerce generally, except such as may be required l to assist in developing markets for our produce, or in combating; trusts and combines acting to the detriment of the general welfare. ’ ’ (Auck!and). —Carried. “That this conference endorses the action of control- boards in reducing ports of call for individual ships taking away our produce.” (Auckland). “That iii the interests of wheat growers, fttmrmillers and consumers,, the lime has arrived when a commission should lie set up to investigate the wheat question.” (Otago).—Deferred.
