ANNUAL AIFETTNG
Tfca seventh aimual meeting; of the Tawhiti Social Hull Society was held 'ast evening, wlieu the chairman, Mr IV. He id, presided over a fair attendance.
The annual report, presented ‘by the chairman, stated that, at the, beginning of the year the debit balance stood at £lOl and this was ra,then increased during a somewhat lean season, but -Mr J. B. L.turerison had come to the society’s assistance and a considerable- reduction had been made in the debt, which, now amounted to £6O. Thanks were- due to all who had assisted during the past and present seasons, referring especially to the ladies, who had always provided a bounteous supper for either small or large gatherings, to 'Mr McGlade, who had, at all times, attended to the arduous task of cleaning the hall, attending to the lights, acting as doorkeeper, and for some time as secretary and treasurer. Thanks were also due to Mr R-. R. Morrissey. The report was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The eWticni of officers resulted as follows: —Chairman, Mr W. Reid; ,seeretarv. Mr A. Reid; treasurer, Mr A. McGlade,. It was decided that the committee should in future consist of twelve, whereupon the following were elected : •J. Alexander, A. Appleyard, N. Copeland, J. B. Lauren,son, R. McLean, H. Summers, G. Appleyard, Airs Grant, and the chairman, secretary and treasurer ox officio. GENERAL.
The- chairman stated that it had been suggested to hold sports during th.« (••lining summer for the purpose of raising funds towards liquidating the debt on the hall. Air AV. Alinhiiinick had promised to conduct such a meeting if held, and it was felt that, a conside,table sum might ho raised. A subcommittee. consisting of Messrs Alexander. Appleyard and Lauren son was set up to go fully into the matter. The question of the provision of electric light in the hall, displacing a gas-generating system, was discussed at length, and was final ! y held over for further consideration.
An application was) received, 1 from Sister Betty for the use of the two small rooms of the hall for Sunday School classes. This application was deait with by the committee subsequent to tl'.?) annual meeting, and l it was decided to giant permission subject to the payment of a small charge to cover expenses.
The organisation of a shop day. to lie hold Inter in the year, was left in the hands of Airs Grant.
