CANADA’S WHEAT CROP.
RIG DROP FROM LAST YEAR
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT OTTAWA, Ang. 3. Canada’s wheat crop for 192 Gis estimated at 348,626,000 bushels, compared! with 411,376,000 bushels in, 1925, according to a Federal crop report issued' on Tuesday.
At the Dunedin and Christchurch Training Colleges’ tournament on Tuesday, in a boxing contest, W. H. .Henderson (Dunedin) broke iiis left wrist when, half-way through the first round. He, however, hung on gamely and won his bout. The annual report of the Ruapehu Ski Oub shows that much was clone last .season. The mieanibership now stands- at 132, comprising 43 women, and S 9 .men. The .report comments upon the fact- that in the past many members only joined for the sake ot attending one winter sports meeting, and, when that was over, allowed their interest, to wane (New Zealand Herald). I.t is .suggested that before electing a new member some inquiry should he made as to whether lie intends, taking an. .active interest, in the' c-lub for some years. The Bruce road is now formed as far as the Whakapapa Huts -and motors will now find little difficulty in making the trip. Metalling has been carried out to within about 70- chains of the .huts, and should be completed shortly. A great improvement at Whakapapa has been the formation of a wooden “duck-walk” between the huts. Alt Christmas a large hall was erected, originally intended for dining, and the ball L now used as a dormitory. The first need at present at Whakapapa is sleeping accommodation, and until the long-awaited hostel is erected this must take precedence over .social conveniences.
