HOUSEHOLD ANNOYANCES.

SOME SIMPLE CURES. A good many' of the little annoyances, that! a house is apt to give one are capable of being cured by very simple means. Take, for example, the fact that brass stair rods, taps, etc., so quickly go dirty after polishing. All one, need do (after cleaning) is to rub them over with a clear French polish applied with a wad of soft cotton. The French polish is invisible, but the polish on the brass will be perfect for months. It can then be cleaned off, and the operation repeated. Rubbed-off paint round the letterbox is another fairly common annoyance. It can be prevented by' cutting a cardboard frame which will fit exactlv and closely round the letter-box. If this is slipped into position and held there while the brass is being polished the door paint will not get rubbed. The cure,, when unsightly rubbing, has already taken place, is to get a skilled man to paint an oblong or oval round the letter-box, big enough to cover all the rubbed portion, and of a shade a trifle darker than the door. This in no wav 'looks like a new patch on an old garment. It seems like a small panel, such asi many doors have... If wallpaper persists in peeling oft despite repasting, it can be secured with flat-headled carpet nails, on the heads of which pieces of the paper have been gummed to make them unnoticable. Again, doors and floorboards often shrink, causing a draught under the door. Such a gap is easily crot rid of by inserting pieces of paper to build up" the' carpet or linoleum.
