SEARCH FOR OIL.
WORK IN NEW GUINEA. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION —*_OPYEIGHT. Received .Jan. 22, 11.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 22. The geographical survey expedition, which spent nine months .searching for oil ill New Guinea, has returned to Sydney. The leader states that it explored an area of 1000 square miles in the Aitape district, 18 miles from the Dutch border, a good deal of which had never been previously penetrated by whites, but the natives were friendly 7 . The indications of oil surpassed expectations and the expedition conclusively proved the presence of petro'e-uin. Another expedition will be -sent to begin boring operations, which the .geological survey lias justified.
